AFCON 2025: Nigeria and Egypt battle for Third Place

The third-place play-off match between the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Super Eagles of Nigeria is scheduled for this Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco.

The pharaohs of Egypt pride themselves as the African Football team with eight AFCON trophies, the highlights number on the continent.

Their journey for a ninth was cut short when they were defeated by Senegal in the semi finals.

The team that has had impressive parcours during this AFCON has won the bronze medal three times.

Their opponents, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are bidding for a ninth AFCON bronze medal.

They have grabbed the coveted AFCON trophy three times and their aspirations for a fourth were halted after their clash with the Atlas Lions of Morocco, the host team.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt have met 20 times in various tournaments. Nigeria won eight matches, Egypt got six, and six ended in draws.

Their two most recent AFCON related confrontations were won by

Nigeria. The most recent victory by Egypt over Nigeria was during the 2021 AFCON group match by 1–0.

The third-place play-off match is the last but one encounter before the close the Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 that ends on Sunday January 18, 2026 with the grand file between the host, the Atlas Lions of Morocco and the Teranga Lions of Senegal.
