Gov’t weighs easing farm loans

Government is considering easing agricultural lending requirements as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and the threat of El Niño-induced drought increase pressure on Botswana’s farming sector.

Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture Motsamai Motsamai has urged state-owned lenders, including the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA), to reconsider loan conditions and repayment structures that he says are limiting farmers’ access to capital.
