Cardoso confirms Saleng is out in the cold at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that Monnapule Saleng is currently training away from the club’s first team after repeatedly breaching the club’s rules and values.

Cardoso revealed that Saleng has been separated from the squad after failing to report for a Champions League match and subsequently refusing to join the team’s training camp.

“Saleng consecutively broke the rules and values of the locker room and of the club, and in this moment – well, not in this moment, for some time already – he is not training with the team,” Cardoso said.

“Saleng was on the list for the second match of the Champions League and he didn’t appear. Saleng was on the list to go to camp but he did not appear, or he said he would not go.

“So it’s impossible for us to keep stability with a player you give so much love, even after he systematically failed but is not ready to make the path that the team needs to have.

“So the club decided to put him separated from the team. He’s not with us right now.”

Saleng joined Sundowns from Orlando Pirates but has struggled to establish himself as a regular since making the move to Chloorkop.

Cardoso’s latest comments suggest the situation has now escalated, with the club opting to keep the winger away from the first-team environment.

The tricky winger joined Masandawana in January from rivals Orlando Pirates. He is yet to find his feet at Chloorkop and with the latest situation escalated, it remains to be seen if the attacker will rejoin the first team.
