The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers opened their Cricket South Africa One-Day Cup campaign with a valuable away victory against the Limpopo Impala at Polokwane on Sunday.
Kyle Jacobs
LIFA NTANZI
Luke Beaufort
The Badgers, who won the toss in a match that was reduced to 45 overs per team, due to rain and opted to bowl first. They dismissed the home side for 188 thanks to career best bowling performances by Lifa Ntanzi (5/59 in 8.4 overs) and Kyle Jacobs (4/26 in 9 overs).
The Badgers surpassed the winning target (191/6) in the 40th over for a 4 wickets victory. The run chase was successful thanks to a well-played half-century by the wicketkeeper/batsman Luke Beaufort (51 from 62 balls; 2×6, 3×4).
The Badgers will now host the Mpumalanga Rhino’s in their next fixture at home on Wednesday 19 February 2025.
The Badgers will however be dissatisfied with the fact that they did not convert their won into a bonus point victory. All other teams that won on the weekend did so – Easters against the SA Emerging team, the Tuskers against the Rhino’s and the Iianyathi against the Heat.
